Books for Babies

Teddy

Sammy, one of our very newest patrons, considers a book that his big brother Teddy selected from the Books for Babies basket at the Turner Public Library. As part of this promotion, each newborn in Turner receives a welcome note with an invitation to the parents to come to the Library for a gift of two board books of the parent’s choosing. Often, as in this case, the choice is made by an eager older sibling.

If the family does not already have a Library card, the note serves also as an introduction to the Library children’s room and an ever growing array of activities. In addition to our large collection of children’s books, the library offers a number of children’s programs, run with the help of an increasing number of volunteers. Literacy Activity Kits help toddlers get ready to read. The monthly Children’s Story Hour attracts more delighted children each month. The traditional Summer Reading and Activity Program, run by our Library Director, has a participation of forty to fifty youngsters. And new this year, a Collaboration with Turner Primary School got rave reviews from all who participated – children, teachers, volunteer readers from among our Corporators, and the Principal of Turner Primary School.

We expect that Teddy and Sammy will be spending a lot of time here over the years, and we look forward to watching them grow. If you know of a newborn we have somehow missed, please mention it to us next time you’re in. We are open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from noon to seven and on Saturday mornings from 9:30 to noon.
